Queer Resistance for Palestine is happy to support both Palestinian olive growers and Palestinian queers at the very same time! Many of the international activists working against the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, Gaza and their home countries are queer activists whose principles and organizing skills are straight out of the queer, AIDS and anti-racist movements. Currently, the poor situation of queers in Palestine is used & abused as a justification for Israeli colonization (as in “look how much better off queers are in Israel, and where would Palestinian queers be if they couldn’t flee to Israel?!”) We say NICE TRY! Under occupation, crisis & threat of annihilation, progressive Palestinian voices are overtaken by survival efforts. Progressives have continually struggled to stay relevant as Israeli violence increases, and Palestinian moderates have been systematically assassinated by Israeli military operations. So Queer Resistance recognizes ending the occupation as a basic, necessary step for the growth of queer and other movements in Palestinian society.
